SouthWest E4 Trail
Follow us on a route that combines a magestic coastline with numerous chances for a swim in the Libyan sea and high rigid mountain summits.
Itinerary
Day 1: Elafonisi - Krios Beach
Starting from the iconic pink sand beach we follow the E4 trail along the wild coastline of the west among ancient ruins and amazing views.
Day 2 : Paleochora - Sougia
On this day we remain on the coastline passing the ancient city of Lissos we end up in Sougia a wonderfull by the sea settlement
Day 3: Sougia - Omalos Plateau
Following the gorge of Agia Irini and then old pass torwards the mountains we finish up in Omalos plateau at the altitude of 1200 meters
Day 4: Gingilos Summit
One of the most scenic summits of Lefka Ori mountain range. Gazing the mountain massif and Samaria gorge from above is the highlight of our day
Day 5: Samaria Gorge
After breakfast and logistic arrangements, we will start the hike through the notorious Samaria Gorge. One of the largest National Park of Crete, awarded as a worlds Biosphere reserve by UNESCO that makes it also one of the most popular hikes of Greece.
Day 6: Agia Roumeli - Agios Ioannis
Back on the sea for a while, passing through agios Pavlos
Chapel and one ore swimming break we will eventually climb up to Agios Ioannis village through an old historic trail in the pine tree forest
Day 7: Pachnes summit
Pachnes is the highest summit of Lefka Ori mountain Range, some refer to the region as the “high desert” of Crete a unique geological site among the summits of the massif
Day 8: Anopoli - Chora sfakion
On the last day following old trails of big cultural importance coming down from the highlands of Sfakia region and then along the coastline once more we finish at the village of Chora Sfakion.

Route Specifications
Difficulty Level : Demanding, all participants must have a good pfysical condition and be able to hike for average six hours a day with apporximately 10kg backpack.
